I applied to several places in hopes of getting a regular paycheck. I was getting emails from companies like Lowe’s telling me to apply. I would get interviews but I started to think maybe my age was being factored in. Then it became obvious what the issue was during an interview at a local hardware store. The owner was please to meet me. He was happy that I was a little older because most of the clientele were older folks and they would appreciate someone like me helping them. Then he asked what I had been doing for work. I said I was self employed and have been an entertainer for over 20 years. Then he said, “we have a lot of other people to interview”. He thanked me for coming in and said he’d get a hold of me if anything opened up. Hmmm. It was my prior vocation that was turning folks off. It happened a few more times.
Just after the stay at home was ordered I turned to social media in hopes of creating a larger fanbase. I thought maybe I could continue to perform and sell tickets. I began performing some live streaming shows for tips and even tried selling tickets to online shows. I had 857 likes on my Facebook page but could only get 30 to 50 people to attend a show at any one time. I don’t really like Facebook and I will write about that in another post but basically out of 857 “likes”, only 50 were really interested.
The pandemic brought about the phrase, “a new normal”. I first became familiar with the phrase after I had my neck fused. A plethora of things came with the titanium rods which my doctor and therapist answered with, “it’s your new normal”. I dislike this phrase. Between my surgical woes and this pandemic why would anyone want this as any type of normal. Much less a new normal. That’s when I said to Janet, “I don’t want this normal, I want better. I want a new better”.
I hope you follow along with our stories, adventures, recipes, videos, music, and projects all in an effort to find our new better.
